The 2007 PrepNation 101 All-American Football Team

Jamie DeMoney, Editor and Publisher

Have something to say about the PrepNation 101 All-American team? Sound off on this year's PrepNation 101 selections right here.

PREPNATION 101 ALL-AMERICAN TEAM COMPRISES TOP PLAYERS FROM ALL 50 STATES

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The fourth annual 2007 PrepNation 101 All-American team -- the only high school All-American squad that includes players from all 50 states -- has been announced by the high school sports website PrepNation.com. The team features the 101 most accomplished high school football players in the country, as selected by PrepNation Editor and Publisher Jamie DeMoney.

"First and foremost, the PrepNation 101 All-American team is about achievement," DeMoney said. "Our selections not only reward individual achievement, they focus on how individual success played a part in overall team success and winning championships.

"This is not another redundant list of the country's top college prospects masquerading as an All-American team."

No state is eligible to have more than five players selected for PrepNation's 101-player team, which is believed to be the only prep All-American football team to ever honor players from the states of Alaska, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, and Vermont.

"We include players from every state because outstanding prep football is played in every state," DeMoney said. "The USA Today and PARADE All-America squads are great honors and have great tradition, but less than half of the country is represented on those teams. I want to recognize the best players from every state."

DeMoney views literally thousands of high school players on videotape each year during the course of his work as an analyst for the national scouting service, Forbes Recruit Evaluation (TheForbesReport.com). But the PrepNation 101 All-American team is based exclusively on high school accomplishments, not college potential.

"There are plenty of recruiting rankings and recruiting websites out there already," DeMoney said. "The PrepNation 101 is about honoring players for what they have done on the field in high school and for what they have meant to their high school team's success.

"Dozens of blue chip Division I recruits are on the PrepNation 101 All-American team, but there are some others who might not even play football in college. And that certainly doesn't diminish what they have achieved as a high school football player."

Below is the full list of PrepNation 101 honorees by state (all players are seniors unless otherwise noted), followed by PrepNation's Regional Players and Coaches of the Year.

PrepNation 101 Breakdown by Region: Northeast (14); East Coast (11); Southeast (17); Midwest (16); Midlands (17); Southwest (14); and West Coast (12).

PrepNation 101 Regional Players and Coaches of the Year

NORTHEAST
Player of the Year: Terrell Pryor (QB/DB) Jeannette (Pa.)
Prior led Jeannette to a perfect 16-0 record and a Class AA state championship. The USA Today national offensive player of the year accounted for 3,788 combined passing and rushing yards with 58 total touchdowns as the Jayhawks scored a state-record 860 points.

Coach of the Year: Greg Toal, Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.)
Despite having only one bonafide Division I prospect in its senior class, Toal led Don Bosco to its second consecutive unbeaten season, state No. 1 ranking, and Top 25 finish in the National Prep Poll.

EAST COAST
Player of the Year: Mike Glennon (QB) Westfield (Chantilly, Va.)
Glennon led the Bulldogs to a perfect 15-0 record, a state championship, the No. 15 ranking in the final National Prep Poll. The NC State recruit passed for 2,557 yards and had 32 passing and six rushing touchdowns.

Coach of the Year: Tom Verbanic, Westfield (Chantilly, Va.)
Like Don Bosco's Toal, Verbanic did the most possible with the least amount of Division I-caliber talent on his team's roster. Among the Bulldogs' seniors, only Glennon is expected to play at that level next season. Westfield outscored opponents by an average of 38-9.

SOUTHEAST
Player of the Year:
Darius Barksdale (RB/DB) South Panola (Batesville, Miss.)
Barksdale was at his best when the stakes were highest. The two-time PrepNation 101 selection ran for an eye-popping 732 yards and scored eight total touchdowns in South Panola's final two games of the season. For the season, he had 2,917 rushing yards with 35 touchdowns as the Tigers won their fifth consecutive 5A state title and extended their winning streak to 75 games.

Coach of the Year: Billy Rolle, Northwestern (Miami)
Although Rolle captained the most talent-laden team in entire country, his ability to tie the team together was remarkable. The Bulls went 15-0 and won the 6A state title for the second consecutive season despite a turbulent summer when the majority of their coaching staff was replaced due to academic and disciplinary issues.

MIDWEST
Player of the Year: Jordan Tassio (QB/P/PK) Naperville (Ill.) North
Tassio was the unshakable and unquestioned leader of the 8A state champion Huskies. He accounted for 2,270 combined passing and rushing yards with 37 total touchdowns while handling the team's punting and placekicking duties.

Coach of the Year: Steve Specht, St. Xavier (Cincinnati)
Specht led the Bombers to their first National Prep Poll title after going 15-0 with a Division I state title for the second time in three seasons. St. Xavier played arguably the nation's most difficult schedule this season and defeated nine teams that were nationally or regionally ranked.

MIDLANDS
Player of the Year: Willie Mobley (DL) Eden Prairie
The Ohio State recruit led one of the most dominant teams in Minnesota prep history. The Eagles crushed opponents by an average of 45-8 per game, allowing only 42 first-half points in 14 games. Mobley had 17 tackles for losses, as Eden Prairie went 14-0 and won the 5A state title for the second consecutive season.

Coach of the Year: Mike Grant, Eden Prairie (Minn.)
Grant, who wins this award for the second consecutive year, has led the Eagles to six state championships the last 12 seasons. Eden Prairie finished in the final National Prep Poll Top 25 for the third time since 2000.

SOUTHWEST
Player of the Year: Mark Ginther (QB/P) Jenks (Okla.)
In leading the Trojans to their second consecutive 6A state title, Ginther completed 70 percent of his throws for 2,884 yards and 29 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He has passed up scholarship offers to play football in college in order to concentrate on his baseball career at Oklahoma St.

Coach of the Year: Gary Joseph, Katy (Texas)
Joseph guided the Tigers to the No. 3 ranking in the final National Prep Poll and their fourth state championship since 1997. Katy, which has not lost a regular season game since 2004, outscored foes 44-8 in 2007.

WEST COAST
Player of the Year: Ryan Bass (RB) Centennial (Corona, Calif.)
The Arizona-bound back ran for 2,606 yards and 48 touchdowns as the Huskies reached the Division I state championship game and finished ranked No. 11 in the National Prep Poll.

Coach of the Year: Matt Logan, Centennial (Corona, Calif.)
Logan led Centennial to its best season in school history following the death of his wife and mother of his three children during the offseason. The Huskies lost to No. 5 Concord De La Salle in the Division I state championship game, 37-31, after battling back from a 31-7 deficit late in the third quarter.
