FEATS OF THE WEEK: For the first time in Prep Poll history, the national champions of high school basketball reside in the hoops-crazy state of Indiana. Indianapolis, Lawrence North wrapped up the crown with an 80-56 rout of Muncie Central in the Class 4A state championship, witnessed by 18,345 fans at Conseco Fieldhouse. Seven-foot center Greg Oden (Ohio St.) scored a game-high 26 points with 11 rebounds. Senior guard Mike Conley (Ohio St.) chipped in 21 . . . Coach Jack Keefer's team was truly one for the ages. Not only were the Wildcats the first team since 2000-01 (Oak Hill) to be ranked No. 1 every week of the season, they also tied a 50-year-old state record with 45 consecutive wins. The mark was originally set by Indianapolis, Crispus Attucks, featuring future Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson. Lawrence North had more than its own share of star power with Oden and Conley. Oden, a rare combination of offensive skills and shot-blocking ability, is the consensus top-rated senior in the country. Conley, son of the former Olympic gold medalist triple jumper of the same name, is one of America's top point guards . . . The Wildcats' 29-0 record included 10 wins over teams that were nationally or regionally ranked this season.
